Managing Reformatting

Managing preservation reformatting involves identifying collections in need of reformatting; setting priorities among those collections; choosing the appropriate reformatting method(s); finding funding for the project; and carrying out the project.

Because institutions are usually working with a limited budget, and numerous collections may be good candidates for reformatting, selecting the materials to be reformatted and setting priorities are often extremely challenging.

In this section, you will identify strategies for effective selection and project management.

Tip!

See Session 8: Building a Preservation Program for information on setting overall institutional preservation priorities.
