Preservation education and training of staff and others is necessary to successful preservation efforts. Facilitating preservation awareness for the institution's administrator(s) and/or trustees can be very helpful in encouraging institutional commitment.
Certainly all staff members with preservation responsibilities (e.g., book repair, administering preservation microfilming projects) must be trained in proper preservation techniques. Staff members with management responsibility for preservation activities should also participate in professional activities, which will allow them to keep up with current preservation information and network with peers.
